My practice re-interprets notions of what constitutes spaces, both within an art historical context and a contemporary social context. The paintings deal with the tensions and dichotomies in both the depiction of the spaces and the relationship of bodies to it. Highlighting spaces which have been collected from Persian and Mughal miniature paintings using gouaches as my major material. These spaces often encourage the viewer to feel familiar as they seem to mirror bodies and their perception of privacy reflected through the surveillance. The familiar symbols like CCTV cameras, camera lenses, and drones allow the viewers to know how they work, i.e find the correlating part and situating themselves into correlating spaces.

The CCTV phenomenon is a relatively new one aimed at beefing up security systems in public spaces. At the same time, it is something that can compromise a person’s privacy in non-descriptive ways. One of them is to make the body of that person appear and disappear without their knowledge. This doesn’t necessarily have negative connotations, but the thought that someone doesn’t have control over their body, even for a brief period of time.
