I created the first pocket-handkerchiefs to offer them to friends. I sent some by mail, others were hand-delivered. This project was born by the desire to gather a group of friends geographically scattered around a common object. The object makes it possible to materialize the friendly bond which each person in the group shares, as a family sharing a common heritage, a coat of arms, a fetish, a common identity. The title of the work refers to a familiar object because the pocket-handkerchief is the co-pilot of its owner. Its format and material allow it to be taken everywhere, or to be preciously kept in a treasure box and taken out occasionally. The link that he materializes is manifested graphically in the plastic work by sewn links with thread, and collage.  Each handkerchief is different and has been chosen for its owner according to its tastes and personality. In a way, each handkerchief resembles its owner. Bringing a group together around a physical object embodying a concept or a feeling echoes many themes of sociology, anthropology, and religion. For me, this project poses above all the question of the relation between collective identity and friendship.
